Sailing Monohulls · Short-Handed Sailing: YachtCodex lists 107 models, 9.0–14.5 m long. The builders with the most are Hallberg-Rassy (31), Elan (8), and Faurby Yachts (8). The largest in production is the Hallberg-Rassy 44 Mk II (14.5 m); the shallowest draft is the Bestevaer 42 S/Y's (0.75 m).

Sailing Monohulls

One hull, a keel to hold it up against the sails, and the oldest arrangement still in production. A monohull heels, which is how it tells the crew what the wind is doing, and it rights itself because the ballast under it wants to hang downward. It is the form most sailors learn on and the one most ocean races are still run in.

Short-Handed Sailing

Sailing yachts a couple or a singlehander can manage without a crew. The criteria are a length overall between 9 and 14.5 metres -- the familiar advice that two people can handle up to about 45 feet -- and an upwind sail area of 110 square metres or less, or, where no upwind area is published, a mainsail of 60 square metres or less; racers are excluded.
