Sailing Trimarans · Bluewater Cruising: YachtCodex lists 5 models, 11.6–18.1 m long. The builders with the most are Rapido Trimarans (3) and Dragonfly Trimarans (2). The largest in production is the Rapido 60 (18.1 m); the shallowest draft is the Dragonfly 36's (0.67 m).
Sailing Trimarans
A main hull with a float either side: most of the weight in the middle, most of the stability at the ends of the beams. A trimaran carries its accommodation in one hull rather than two, which puts the living space on one level and keeps the crew together, and it is generally the quickest of the three forms for a given length. It is also the rarest in production, which is why this is the shortest list on the site.
Bluewater Cruising
Boats whose published figures say they are built to cross oceans rather than to coast along them. A sailing yacht is listed here when the builder states CE Category A -- the Recreational Craft Directive's ocean class, force 8 and above, waves of four metres and more, and the only certified basis there is for such a claim -- and a length overall of 11 metres or more, excluding racers and daysailers. A motor yacht qualifies as an explorer or trawler, or on a published range of 1,500 nautical miles or more.
