What this builder is
Quorning Boats was founded in 1967 when Børge Quorning, back from boatbuilding in Canada, set out with his brother Bent to build trimarans in Northern Europe; the Trident 28 of 1968 found only one buyer, the double-ended Luna motorboats kept the yard alive through the 1970s, and the Trident 27 series, the 1978 racer Quick Step and the first Dragonfly 25 of 1980 turned it into a trimaran-only builder. Eric and Jens Quorning's records and race wins — Round Zealand, the two-handed Round Britain and Ireland in 1985, the Round Denmark record in a standard Dragonfly 800 — made the name, and the folding Swing Wing system that lets a Dragonfly narrow to marina width became its signature. The yard at Skærbæk employs around fifty people and builds over forty trimarans a year; it has won European Yacht of the Year and the current range, designed by Jens Quorning with Steen Olsen, runs from the trailerable Dragonfly 25 and the Dragonfly 28 family cruiser to the Dragonfly 33 (new, replacing the 32), 36 and 40 performance cruisers, each offered in Touring and Performance or Ultimate rigs. Every specification page prints centre-hull length, waterline, folded length, sailing and folded beam, board-up and board-down draft, dry weight, engine, tankage, mast heights, sail areas and CE persons for each version.
Who sails them
Dragonfly owners are sailors who want a boat that sails at twenty knots with under ten degrees of heel, folds to fit an ordinary marina berth or a road trailer, draws next to nothing with the board up and is unsinkable: couples and families cruising the Baltic, the Channel and the Mediterranean, racers in the smaller boats, and shorthanded offshore sailors in the 36 and 40.
Signature models
The Dragonfly 40 is the flagship — a twin-wheel performance cruiser in Touring, Ultimate, C Ultimate and C Performance versions — while the Dragonfly 28 is the yard's best-known family cruiser-racer and the new Dragonfly 33 carries the wave-piercing hull of the 36 down to the size that made the 32 a bestseller.
Strengths
Dragonfly is known for the Swing Wing folding system, wave-piercing centre hulls and floats, light sandwich construction from a family yard with over fifty-five years on the same site, unsinkable boats with shallow board-up draft, published Touring and Performance rig options, and a run of European Yacht of the Year awards.
Considerations
Trimarans need a wide berth or must be folded, prices and interior volume are those of a much longer monohull, the 25 and 28 rely on an outboard, the 33's figures are provisional, displacement is dry weight excluding equipment, sail areas are per sail, and the specification tables list persons by CE category rather than berths.

History
Børge Quorning came home to Denmark in 1966 from boatbuilding in Canada with one ambition, to build trimarans and make Europeans appreciate them, and in August 1967 he and his brother Bent built a yard at Skærbæk with their own hands -- the same hall still stands beside the office. The first boat, the Trident 28 of 1968, found only one buyer, so the brothers kept the yard alive with the double-ended Luna 19 and Luna 26 while experimenting with trimaran prototypes; the 16-foot plywood boat Børge built for his sons in 1972 was the first to carry the name Dragonfly. The brothers parted in 1974, the Trident 27 became the first production trimaran and the Dragonfly 25 followed in 1980, but the milestone came in August 1989 with the Dragonfly 800 Swing Wing, the first folding Dragonfly. Jens Quorning took over from his parents in 1995; the Dragonfly 920 of 1996 sold 168 boats, the 1200 flagship arrived in 2000, and 3D design from 2005 produced the Dragonfly 35, then the 28, 32 and 25. The Dragonfly 40 premiered at boot Düsseldorf in 2020 and was European Yacht of the Year 2021, the yard's fourth; trimaran number 1,000 was built in early 2022, shortly before Børge Quorning died at ninety, and the Dragonfly 36 followed in 2024 -- with Peter Quorning, the third generation, now Vice President.
