Sailing Monohulls · Bluewater Cruising · 30–40 ft: YachtCodex lists 10 models, 11.2–12.1 m long. The builder with the most is Jeanneau (2). The largest in production is the Hallberg-Rassy 370 (12.1 m); the shallowest draft is the Alubat OVNI 370's (0.92 m).
Sailing Monohulls
One hull, a keel to hold it up against the sails, and the oldest arrangement still in production. A monohull heels, which is how it tells the crew what the wind is doing, and it rights itself because the ballast under it wants to hang downward. It is the form most sailors learn on and the one most ocean races are still run in.
Bluewater Cruising
Boats whose published figures say they are built to cross oceans rather than to coast along them. A sailing yacht is listed here when the builder states CE Category A -- the Recreational Craft Directive's ocean class, force 8 and above, waves of four metres and more, and the only certified basis there is for such a claim -- and a length overall of 11 metres or more, excluding racers and daysailers. A motor yacht qualifies as an explorer or trawler, or on a published range of 1,500 nautical miles or more.
