What this builder is

In 1975 John Winn, with his father Bill Sr. and brothers Bill Jr. and Charlie, bought a boat manufacturer and launched Four Winns; the first models, the Candia deck boat and the Marquise runabout, came in 1978, followed in the 1980s by the Liberator, Horizon, Sundowner, Freedom and Vista lines. OMC Boat Group bought the company in 1987, with John Winn leading it until 1995; in 1993 Four Winns introduced its Stable-Vee hull, which it says won a Popular Mechanics design award and was on every model by 1995; in 2010 it launched its largest boat, the 49-foot V575; and in 2014 it joined Groupe Beneteau, which brought a dedicated motorboat plant to Cadillac, Michigan. The redesigned H-Series arrived in 2022, along with the all-electric H2e built with Vision Marine Technologies; the TH power catamarans that began with the TH36 passed to Jeanneau in January 2026. Today's range is bowriders in two series, each hull offered as a sterndrive or an outboard (OB): the H-Series with its vertical bow stem — H1, H2, H4, H6, H9 and the H33 flagship unveiled in 2025 — and the HD-Series — HD3, HD5 and HD8 — with surf packages on six of them. The website is published by Groupe Beneteau's SPBI, and each model page prints metric and imperial specifications including CE category, persons, lightship displacement and maximum engine power.

Who sails them

Four Winns owners are families and groups who spend days on lakes and coastal waters — swimming, towing and surfing, often trailering the boat home — and who choose on style, a smooth Stable-Vee ride, the choice of sterndrive or outboard on the same hull, a matched trailer and a transferable warranty.

Signature models

The H-Series, relaunched in 2022 with its vertical bow stem and cross-curve windshield, defines the brand today, crowned by the H33, which the yard unveiled in 2025 as the series' new flagship; the HD-Series adds deeper, plusher bowriders with hand-stitched upholstery.

Strengths

Four Winns is known for its patented Stable-Vee running surface, sterndrive and outboard versions of every hull, surf packages for wake sports, custom-matched trailers, the transferable Winning Edge owner protection plan, Seanapps connected maintenance and the backing of Groupe Beneteau.

Considerations

Model pages print no speeds, engine list, cabins or range — only the maximum engine power each hull is rated for, so engine count is left empty; displacement is lightship with engine; draft is approximate with the drive up and down; the H6 prints its bridge clearance as 8.61 m (its extended-platform length), so its air draft is left empty; the H33 sterndrive page shows only outboard photographs; the H9 prints a hull length (9.11 m) a centimetre longer than its length overall; the surf packages and the HD2 announced in 2026 are not entered.

History

Four Winns calls its story a family affair. In 1975 John Winn, with his father Bill Sr. and his brothers Bill Jr. and Charlie, bought a boat manufacturing company and launched the Four Winns brand. The first models came in 1978 — the Candia, a family deck boat with a center console, and the Marquise, a light everyday runabout — followed in 1979 by the Catalina tri-hull outboard. Through the 1980s the boats were known by their angular wraparound windshields: the Santara cuddy cabin, the Liberator 204 of 1983, which Powerboat Magazine named most impressive new model, the Horizon and Sundowner lines of 1984, the Freedom entry-level runabouts from 1986 and the first Vista family cruiser in 1987, the year OMC Boat Group bought the company; John Winn went on leading it within OMC until 1995. In 1993 Four Winns introduced the Stable-Vee running surface, which won a Popular Mechanics design and engineering award in 1994 and was used across the whole range by 1995. The Funship deck boats replaced the Candia in 2000, the SL series arrived in 2008, and in 2010 the 49-foot V575 became the largest boat in the fleet. In 2014 Four Winns joined Groupe Beneteau, which brought a dedicated motorboat production unit to Cadillac, Michigan. The redesigned H-Series followed in 2022, with the bowrider range fully renewed by 2023; in November 2022 it launched the H2e with Vision Marine Technologies, which it calls the first all-electric series-production bowrider, and in September 2022 the TH36 catamaran opened a new range.
