Design limits set by the EU Recreational Craft Directive (2013/53/EU), in significant wave height. A category covers the conditions of those below it. It is the limit the boat was designed to, not a promise that it is safe in any conditions within it — that judgement stays with the skipper.

About Fairline Yachts

Premium production

British builder of hand-built motor yachts from 33 to 65 feet — the F//LINE, Targa, Squadron and Phantom ranges — founded in 1967 at Oundle Marina on the River Nene, where every boat is still built.

Fairline began in 1963, when Jack Newington bought disused gravel pits by the River Nene at Oundle, cut a channel through to the river and built workshops, offices, a chandlery and a slipway. The first boat, the Fairline 19 river cruiser of 1967, blended handcraft with the GRP construction of the day; the Phantom 32 of 1974 gave its name to three decades of family cruisers, the Fairline 40 of 1977 stayed in production a record eleven years, the Turbo 36 of 1981 became an enduring favourite, and the Targa 33 of 1985 set the benchmark for the modern express cruiser. The Queen's Award for Export followed in 1986, the Squadron range opened the large-yacht market with the Squadron 62 in 1991, a purpose-built 60,000 square foot factory opened in Oundle in 2001, and the 10,000th Fairline, a Squadron 65, left the yard in 2003. Gran Turismo versions of the Targa with a powered retractable hardtop came in 2004, the Queen's Award for Enterprise in 2008, and the Targa 63 GTO marked the fiftieth anniversary in 2017; the Targa 43 Open and Squadron 68 took World Yacht Trophies in 2018 and 2019, the F//LINE 33 was 'Superboat' at the 2020 Motorboat of the Year awards, and the Phantom 65 won Motorboat of the Year in 2023.
