What this builder is
Rustler Yachts is a small, traditional British builder in Falmouth known for hand-built, bespoke cruising monohulls that blend classic lines with modern construction technology. It occupies a premium, craft-oriented niche distinct from volume production yards, emphasizing individually tailored builds and seaworthy, comfortable designs for real-world cruising.
Who sails them
Rustler owners tend to be experienced cruising sailors, often couples or small crews, seeking a robust, seaworthy yacht for long-distance or bluewater cruising rather than racing or charter fleets. Many commission a bespoke build tailored to their own specification and stay closely involved with the builder throughout construction.
Signature models
The Rustler 36, the company's first model built in the early 1980s, established its reputation for classic, seaworthy design. The Rustler 42 and Rustler 44 are well-known mid-size cruisers, while the Rustler 57 represents the flagship of the range for serious long-distance cruising.
Strengths
Rustler is widely credited with exceptional hand-built quality, strong build integrity, and seaworthy, comfortable sailing characteristics, along with a close, personal relationship between builder and owner throughout the build process.
Considerations
As a small British builder focused on bespoke, hand-built construction, Rustler yachts carry a premium price and longer build/lead times than mass-production yards, with a narrower model range than larger volume builders.

History
The first Rustler 36 was built at Falmouth in the early 1980s, and Rustler has been building there ever since, by hand, in a mixture of traditional method and current technology. Hundreds of owners have had a boat designed and built for them in that time, and no two have ever been specified alike. The yachts are manufactured on the premises rather than assembled from parts: the engineering, the moulding and the joinery are all done by the yard's own staff, and nothing is outsourced. The company is deliberately small and personal, and an owner deals directly with the people building the boat, from the tailored design through the handover trials.
