What this builder is

Cranchi is a long-established Italian motoryacht builder based on Lake Como, known for combining Italian design sensibility with a broad range of sport cruisers, day boats and larger flybridge/motor yachts. It occupies a mid-to-premium segment of the Italian powerboat market, distinguished by its heritage dating to 1870 and continued family/group ownership rather than being a recent entrant.

Who sails them

Cranchi owners are typically experienced private boaters and families seeking stylish day cruising and coastal cruising in the Mediterranean and beyond, often with small crews (owner-operated) rather than professional crew. Boats are used for weekend and holiday cruising, watersports, and lifestyle-driven boating rather than long-distance bluewater voyaging or heavy charter fleets.

Signature models

The Settantotto 78 heads the Orizzonte flybridge line with the Sessantasette 67 and Sessantadue 62; the A64, A47 and A46 Luxury Tender form the Aria range, the M44 HT and Z35 the Marea line, and the E26 is the entry point. The A32 Luxury Tender won the Design Innovation Award 2025 at the Genoa International Boat Show.

Strengths

Cranchi is recognised for its distinctive Italian design language, craftsmanship rooted in its Lake Como heritage, and a long, independent family history that supports consistent build quality across its range.

Considerations

As a heritage Italian production builder still owned by the Cranchi and Monzino families, Cranchi's range spans mainstream production boats to larger yachts, so buyers should weigh production-line compromises and the resale and pricing dynamics of a mid-to-upper volume Italian brand against fully custom or larger-yard alternatives.

History

Cranchi counts six generations since 1870, the year Giovanni Cranchi's craft business was registered to build wooden boats on Lake Como. In 1932 another Giovanni Cranchi, grandson of the founder, moved the workshop to Brienno, still on the lake shore, and gave it the scale of a boatyard. In 1970, a hundred years after the first workshop, Tullio Monzino went into partnership with Aldo Cranchi and the yard moved to the nearby Valtellina to expand. The yard has operated independently since 1870, and the Cranchi family still owns it today alongside the Monzino family.
