What this builder is

The yard says Sessa Marine was founded in 1958 as one of the first Italian companies to process phenolic powders and polyester resins, and launched its marine division in 1968 with a debut at the Genoa Boat Show. Small boats were built at Sessa Aurunca in the 1970s, the Arcore plant was bought in 1972, and in 1973 Sessa became the first Italian company to install Piaggio jets. Headquarters moved to Lesmo in 1986; two years later boatbuilding went to the province of Bergamo with the purchase of Fyberstamp, a moulder for brands such as Riva and Ferretti, and in 1992 the two merged into Sessa Marine S.p.A., whose Cividate plant was enlarged in 1999. Sessa America opened in Florida in 2006, the C68 took the yard above 20 metres in 2008, the Sport Fly 54 followed in 2010 and Sessa Brasil, with its own plant, in 2011; in 2015 the company became Sessa International S.r.l., and the yard says it has built more than 20,000 boats. Today's range is the Cruiser Line C35 FB, C35 EFB and C38, the Yacht Line C42, C44, C48, C54 and C68, the Flybridge Line FLY42, F48, FLY54, F60 and FLY68 Gullwing, and the Key Largo outboard line 25, 27 FB, 34 FB and 40. Each page carries a technical table — length overall and certification length, beam, engines (often as maximum total power), top speed, transmission, cabins, weight, persons, tanks, draught, berths and CE category — and most models were restyled by Centrostiledesign. A Classic Division refits older Sessa boats.

Who sails them

Sessa owners are Mediterranean couples and families who want an Italian-styled open, coupé or flybridge boat between 7.5 and 21 metres at production-boat value — buyers who like the long hull windows, the wide choice of colours, woods, leathers and fabrics, Volvo Penta IPS joystick handling on the larger boats and outboard power on the Key Largo and C35 FB.

Signature models

The Key Largo open boat — the Key Largo 36 was Motor Boating's Boat of the Year in 2009 — is the yard's best-known name and is now led by the Key Largo 40; the C68 of 2008 took Sessa above 20 metres and was named best boat design under 70 feet in France, and the FLY68 Gullwing is the flagship.

Strengths

Sessa is known for a recognisable 'Power of Style' design with large hull windows, extensive customisation of colours, woods, leathers and fabrics, a range that runs from 25-foot outboard dayboats to 68-foot flybridges, more than 20,000 boats built, plants in Italy and Brazil, a dealer and service-point network across the Mediterranean, the Middle East and the Americas, and a Classic Division that refits older Sessas.

Considerations

The Italian model pages are the current ones (the English menu still lists dropped models); engines are often given only as a maximum total power, so per-engine horsepower is entered only where the page names the engine; weight is 'with engines' on some models and 'without engines' on others; the F48 and F60 tables omit certification length, draught and weight; no designer, naval architect or hull material is printed; and the yard's narrative history and its timeline give different years for some events.

History

Sessa Marine says it was founded in 1958 as one of the first companies in Italy to process phenolic powders and polyester resins, and that its marine division was launched in 1968 with a debut at the Genoa Boat Show. In the 1970s small boats were built at Sessa Aurunca and at a smaller site in Cinisello Balsamo; the Arcore plant was acquired in 1972, and in 1973 Sessa became the first Italian company to install the new Piaggio jets. Headquarters moved from Arcore to Lesmo in 1986, and two years later boatbuilding moved to the province of Bergamo with the acquisition of Fyberstamp, a yard moulding for brands such as Riva and Ferretti — a turning point, by the yard's account, towards larger boats, as the Mambo, Samba and Sunshine of the 1980s gave way to the Key Largo, Oyster and Key West ranges. In 1992 Fyberstamp merged with Sessa to form Sessa Marine S.p.A., and the Cividate plant was modernised and enlarged in 1999. Sessa America opened in Florida in 2006, the C68 took the yard into yachts over 20 metres in 2008, the Key Largo 36 was Motor Boating's Boat of the Year in 2009, the Sport Fly 54 followed in 2010 and Sessa Brasil, with its own plant, in 2011. In 2015 the company became Sessa International S.r.l.; the FLY68 Gullwing flagship and the Key Largo 40 came later (the yard's narrative and timeline give different years). The timeline says a group of entrepreneurs who already owned the Brazilian production bought all the shares in 2023, and the narrative that an international shareholder base joined in 2025, with the two plants in Italy and Brazil working together.
