What this builder is

Nautitech is a French production catamaran builder based in Rochefort, known for pioneering the open-plan cockpit-saloon layout and for balancing sailing performance with liveaboard comfort. It sits in the performance-cruising segment of the catamaran market, distinct from more luxury-oriented or charter-volume rivals through its emphasis on helm feel and seaworthiness.

Who sails them

Nautitech catamarans are typically bought by experienced couples or small families planning long-distance cruising, liveaboard voyages, or occasional charter, drawn to the open cockpit-saloon layout for relaxed but capable offshore sailing.

Signature models

The current range is three boats: the 48 Open flagship, the 44 Open launched in 2022, and the 41 Type S, the lightest and most performance-oriented of the three and a nominee for European Yacht of the Year 2027. The 40 Open, presented at the 2014 Multihull Show, is the model that established the open cockpit-saloon layout as Nautitech's signature; it and the 46 Open/Fly and 54 are retired from the range.

Strengths

Nautitech is widely credited with build quality, seaworthy hull design, and creating the open cockpit-saloon concept now common across the catamaran industry.

Considerations

As a mid-size production builder now under private-equity ownership (Capital Management-Partners after a Bavaria period), Nautitech's range is relatively narrow (three to four models) and buyers should weigh limited customization and resale liquidity outside Europe against larger multi-line catamaran builders.

History

Nautitech began in 1994 as a line of catamarans created by the Dufour Yachts group. A change of owner in 2002 brought a new product line, and between 2004 and 2006 the yard set up its own production in La Rochelle and launched the Nautitech 44 and 40; in 2008-09 it moved to the Rochefort site and launched the 441 and 442, the first 54 was presented in 2011, and the 40 Open was unveiled at the Multihull show in 2014. That year Bavaria Yachts bought Nautitech and extended the production lines, giving the yard the industrial means to grow: the 46 Open followed at La Grande Motte in 2016, the 47 Power at boot Düsseldorf in 2018, the new 46 in Open and Fly versions at Cannes in 2019 and the new 47 Power in Miami in 2020; the production tooling was modernised into a multi-product line in 2021, and the 44 Open was launched in 2022.
